Make Way for Ducklings

A hat-tip to Geri at Good News Network for pointing to this video. Here’s a Wednesday Warm-Fuzzy. Lakewood, WA, police officer Dustin Carrell stopped traffic on a recent morning — on a four-lane interstate — to help a mother duck and her ducklings cross the highway. KOMO-TV has the video here (a short commercial, then silent footage).

Today’s mitzvah: Who can you go out of your way to help today?

That's pretty much the best thing I've seen all week. Thanks for sharing!

I wonder, though, was there someone at the helm of the camera watching, or are those things programmed to focus on police cars with their lights on?

Emily, I wondered about the camera, too. Since the ducks are so tiny in the shot -- I wonder if this was a helicopter zoom cam? Might be the regular traffic helicopter who stopped when s/he saw a police officer in traffic, or who was monitoring the police radio.

I wonder if we'd see a similar response on the Beltline. I wouldn't want to be the person trying to stop rush hours traffic on the stretch near my house :-)

A really cute story! I can sympathize with the policeman. I once flagged down a truck in the dark that was going to hit an injured cat. The cat, Tommy, was a family member for 11 years with us. I only wish that more people would take an interest in rescuing animals that are impacted by humans. Unfortunately most of the people in my area would have probably tried to run over the ducks on purpose. It's a sad commentary about human values today.

Ken, they would run down the ducks on purpose? Little duckies? I am a such a Pollyanna, I can't even imagine this!
